Abstract

In a swiftly developing nation like India, mastering English as a secondary language is essential not merely as a global lingua franca, but as a vital spark for shaping international relationships, nurturing social mobility, influencing political discourse, and driving economic prosperity in the interconnected global marketplace. Originating from Anglo-Saxon roots and shaped by centuries of invasions, colonization, and globalization, English has perpetually transformed, adapting to digital influences and multicultural adaptations. Today, the essential is to cultivate proficient bilinguals who wield English fluidly for communication across diverse domains, transcending its literary heritage to dominate science, business, technology, diplomacy and entertainment. This paper examines contemporary trends in English Language Teaching (ELT), highlighting the transformative role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in augmenting traditional pedagogies. It explores available digital tools, while critically analyzing implementation challenges and barriers at institutional and socio-cultural levels for this innovative, integrated approach.
