Abstract

A Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) consists of a group of mobile nodes that can communicate with each other wirelessly without the need for any existing infrastructure or central controller. In link breakage prediction, the link breakage can be predicted before it actually occurs, allowing route maintenance to begin before the problem arises, thereby avoiding issues associated with link breakage. The movement of nodes in a MANET is random, which results in a dynamic topology. Due to this dynamic topology, connection breakages and unreliable data delivery are common problems in the MANET environment. These issues degrade network performance, such as data delivery, throughput, and increase packet drop rates and delay. To address this, we propose a novel approach for routing establishment that operates based on threshold values and an average energy-based scheme, offering more reliable communication. In this approach, we increase the route lifetime, packet delivery ratio, and throughput, while decreasing packet drop, routing load, and end-to-end delay. This approach has been implemented on the well-known Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol. The new mechanism was able to reduce packet loss and delay compared to the original protocol.
