An experimental study on the effective thermal conductivity of ZnO-based nanofluid is presented in this research. The nanofluid was prepared by dispersing ZnO nanoparticles in ethylene glycol using an asonicator and adding a surfactant. Ethylene glycol-based nanofluids containing ZnO nanoparticles at different solid volume fractions (ranging from very low to high) were examined. The thermal conductivity of the nanofluids was experimentally measured, and results indicate that thermal conductivity increases with higher nanoparticle volume concentrations. This work is carried out for engine cooling system applications, where such effects can be applied to nearly all heat transfer processes. The concentrations used were 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, and 2.5% of the total volume fraction, and the results were plotted. Significant changes in thermal properties were observed.
