Futuristic Interior Design for Smart Homes: A Study on Space-Saving, Transformable and Sustainable Design Solutions for Compact Indian Homes
Keywords:

This research study explores how futuristic interior design can respond to the
shrinking living space of modern homes, with a specific focus on smart-home applications in
compact Indian apartments. The study aims to understand how multifunctional furniture,
space-saving design, smart and modular storage, and sustainable materials can together make
small homes feel larger, more comfortable and more efficient. The findings reveal that
transformable and multifunctional furniture can allow a single room to serve several purposes
across the day, while modular and vertical storage reduces clutter and frees usable floor area.
Smart technologies such as sensors, automated mechanisms and app-based controls make
these systems effortless to use, and sustainable and innovative materials reduce the
environmental cost of furnishing a home. Light colours, built-in storage and flexible layouts
were found to be especially effective in compact Indian homes, where rooms are commonly
used for multiple family activities. The research concludes that thoughtful, technology
supported design can turn limited space into a flexible, healthy and personalised living
environment. Proper selection and balanced use of furniture systems, materials and smart
features can improve comfort, well-being, productivity and overall user experience.
