Abstract

Cloud computing has emerged as one of the most transformative technologies in higher education, significantly influencing the management and delivery of digital library services. Academic libraries are increasingly adopting cloud-based Management Information Systems (MIS) to improve operational efficiency, facilitate remote access to digital resources, reduce infrastructure costs, and strengthen institutional knowledge management. Unlike conventional server-based systems, cloud-based MIS provides scalable, flexible, and secure platforms for managing electronic resources, institutional repositories, digital archives, online catalogues, and research databases. These systems enable seamless access to scholarly information while supporting collaborative learning, digital governance, and evidence-based decision-making.

The present study investigates the adoption and effectiveness of cloud-based Management Information Systems in digital academic libraries of universities in Uttar Pradesh. It examines the role of cloud technologies in improving library administration, electronic resource management, digital preservation, information accessibility, and user satisfaction. The study further evaluates the influence of ICT infrastructure, cloud service models, software reliability, institutional support, financial investment, and professional competency on successful cloud-based library management. Additionally, it identifies major challenges associated with cloud adoption, including cybersecurity risks, data privacy concerns, internet dependency, interoperability issues, vendor management, and shortage of technical expertise.

The investigation adopts a descriptive and analytical research design. Primary data are proposed to be collected using structured questionnaires administered to librarians, assistant librarians, faculty members, research scholars, postgraduate students, and library professionals from selected universities across Uttar Pradesh. Secondary data will be obtained from books, peer-reviewed journals, government reports, policy documents, university publications, institutional websites, and digital library reports. Statistical techniques will be employed to analyse the effectiveness of cloud-based Management Information Systems in improving digital academic library performance.
